For an individual learning-path task, you can inherit reminder settings, create custom rules or turn reminders off. This choice applies only to that task. The source course’s reminder settings and the path’s own reminder settings remain unchanged.

How do you open and configure step reminders?

  1. Open the path editor and go to the Path content tab.

  2. If you have just added a task, save the path structure before creating its custom rules.

  3. Find the relevant material and open Step reminders.

  4. In Reminder rules, select Inherit material settings, Custom rules or No reminders. The system saves your choice automatically. Wait for the confirmation message. If you selected inheritance, check the explanation below the list: it shows whether the settings come from the course or the path, and which rules apply.

  5. If you selected Custom rules, select the Custom rules button below the selection field. This opens the list of rules for this task, where you can review existing rules or create new ones.

Which rules does each mode use?

When you select Inherit material settings, the reminder source depends on the task type. A course task uses the source course’s settings, while separate test and document tasks inherit the path’s settings.

Task type Mode Which reminders apply
Course Inherit material settings Reminders configured in the source course apply.
Test or document Inherit material settings The path’s reminder settings apply. Depending on those settings, this can mean shared rules, custom rules or no reminders.
Any task type Custom rules Only rules created for this task apply. Course or path rules are not added to them.
Any task type No reminders Reminder rules do not apply to this task.

What happens if you select Custom rules but create none?

The task will have no reminders. The system does not automatically return to the course or path rules when the custom-rule list is empty.

For example, a course has an inactivity reminder. If the task containing that course uses Custom rules but no rule has been created, the course’s reminder will not apply to that task.

To configure reminders specifically for the task, create a custom rule for it. To use the existing course or path settings, choose Inherit material settings, taking the task type into account.

The changes apply only to reminders for this task. Reminders for the same course in other learning paths, or when taken separately from a path, remain unchanged.

FAQ

Does a test inherit the reminder rules of a course that contains it?

For a separate test task, Inherit material settings uses the path’s reminder settings. The settings of a course containing that test are not the source of reminders for that task.

Do custom and inherited rules work together?

No. In Custom rules mode, only the task’s own rules apply. Course or path rules are not added to them.
