If you rename an existing lesson or change its position in a course, its recorded learning time and progress stay with that lesson. Deleting a lesson, changing the course content and starting a retake affect progress in different ways.
How do you rename or reorder a lesson while keeping its progress?
As an administrator:

Open the existing lesson in the course editor to change its title.

If you need to move it, use the lesson-order controls.

Save the changes and review the course.
To rename a lesson, edit the existing one. If you delete it and create another with the same title, the system treats the replacement as a new lesson. The earlier learning time and progress do not transfer to it.
A lesson’s title and position in the course can change. Those changes alone do not move its recorded results to another lesson.
What happens when a lesson is deleted?
A deleted lesson is no longer part of the current course. Its saved history stays with it and does not transfer to the lesson now occupying the same position. No new learning time is recorded for the deleted lesson.
Adding or removing materials required to complete the course can change current progress because the course content has changed. Records of earlier course completions are preserved and are not rewritten to match the new content.
What happens during a course retake?
If a learning path requires the course to be taken again, the system records new progress separately from the previous attempt. Earlier learning time and completions are not credited to the new attempt simply because lesson titles or positions match.
Earlier results remain in completion history. You can therefore check what an employee completed before and how they are progressing during the retake separately.
What should you check after substantial course changes?
Review the current course content, the employee’s progress in their current assignment and completion history. These show the current attempt separately from earlier results.
